Asturias with José Andrés

Description

Embark on an extraordinary journey that pays homage to chef José Andrés’ birthplace through his own lens. Asturias is located between the Cantabrian Sea and the Picos de Europa mountains, and this intimate adventure offers exclusive access to the most coveted makers and food experiences in Northern Spain, from hidden cheese caves to bustling fish markets and fine-dining moments. Highlights: Day 1 Stay at the luxurious Puebloastur, nestled between the Cantabrian Sea and the majestic Picos de Europa range. This former mountain village is a sanctuary that effortlessly blends comfort with nature. Experience a meal at one of José Andrés’ favorite restaurants, three Michelin-starred Casa Marcial. Situated in a remote setting, this dining destination offers a contemporary culinary journey through the flavors of Asturias. Day 2 Head to the city of Gijón to visit one of the largest markets in the region. Guided by José Andrés, guests discover the finest delicacies the Cantabrian sea has to offer, from preserved anchovies to percebes, the highly sought-after gooseneck barnacles. Enjoy a casual tasting of fresh seafood prepared by José in the heart of the hustle and bustle of the market. Sample some of José’s favorite Asturian dishes at Casa Gerardo, a historic Michelin-starred restaurant that has been run by the same family since 1882. Chef Marcos Moran Suárez, a longtime friend of José, will open the doors to his kitchen and welcome us in for a grand seafood feast. Day 3 Embark on a scenic walk along the Cantabrian Sea, admiring the steep cliffs of the Picos de Europa and the green grass that rolls down toward the coast. Quell your post-hike appetite with lunch in one of Asturias’ quaintest coastal villages, and savor the region’s down-home cooking with sweeping views of the sea. End the day at La Huertona, one of José’s favorite restaurants, in the charming port town of Ribadesella, and the ideal spot to indulge in exquisite Asturian seafood. Day 4 Travel to the breathtaking Picos de Europa for a visit to the Covadonga Sanctuary, a Catholic shrine and pilgrimage site perched on a mountain that’s known for its Holy Cave, which houses a chapel, waterfalls, and the tomb of King Pelayo. Explore natural limestone caves that have existed since prehistoric times and are now home to the region’s finest cheeses, complete with a picnic cheese tasting. Cheers to the end of our journey with a hearty meal at El Molín de Mingo, one of the region’s best restaurants, nestled in a picturesque valley at the foothills of the Picos de Europa.
